Dye in my uterus!

so my hubby and I had our first appointment with the fertility dr yesterday. She seems pretty nice but I was confused with some of the things that she was saying and she went through everything very fast. One thing that confused me was when I told her about my progesterone last cycle she said “well you never know where you are in a cycle so it’s not relevant”…how not? If I’m seeing her for recurrent losses and we know my progesterone was low and that can cause miscarriages then why is that not something to monitor?

What she did say was that due to the abnormally high amount of miscarriages in my family that I may have something called a balanced translocation. I asked her three times and still don’t understand what this means. I tried googling it at work later and am still confused, so I think it’s going to be my monday afternoon searching project (or maybe Tuesday because Monster will be at preschool).

She is sending me for a whack of tests and I can’t say I’m looking forward to it. My hubby was feeling pretty irritated at having to do a semen analysis again untill he saw what I was going to have to and then he decided he had it pretty easy. Nothing like having to get dye shot up your uterus for an x-ray to make your hubby rethink his part. And we’re going to be getting the chromosome testing…which appearantly take 6 months to get the results for. so much stuff. I don’t want to wait. I want to know now!

OPK tease

I’ve gotta say, I really don’t think that I ovulated. I got a positive on my ovulation strip 2 days in a row, then it went to a negative and “ok, that’s done with for this month”. so then I waited for my basal temp to go up. And waited. And waited. Still nothing. I’ve read that charting and OPK’s are only supposed to be out by 3 days max to be accurate. So did I not ovulate?

I’ve long suspected that I don’t ovulate on my right side. My first 2 pregnancies were from my left ovary and I haven’t yet found out about my 3rd (I was a little too stunned to ask when she shooed me over to emerg). I had a dermoid cyst removed from my right ovary last year (you know those funky ones that can grow hair, teeth and their own thyroid?) and I asked if that could have been preventing me from ovulating that side, but they said it was less likely. So if I was right in the first place, and if I’m currently not ovulating on that side, then we know it wasn’t the cyst for sure. The reason I suspected right side for this month was that when I was supposed to be ovulating I was getting definite pain on my right site (and then all the other signs of nature went away), plus now that I have no rise in my temp and an old habit of “that damn right ovary!”. I’m trying to get into my Dr to get my progesterone tested to see it I did ovulate, but I’ve heard that your supposed to go in day 21 (providing you’re a stereotypical 14 day ovulation, which this month I was)…but I can’t get in until day 23. Is that going to mess things up? Has anyone else gone for this test?

This is so frustrating. I want my temps to be wrong. I want to say “this dollar store thermometer sucks” but I know that the dollar store pregnancy tests are just as good as the rest of them, so how hard is it to get a thermometer right? And of course I want to be wrong about my ovary, but it would explain why (one reason) it takes so long to get pregnant when keeping close tract of everything. Only 6 windows a year instead of 12. And for some, each window is a LOT smaller than others.

Ovulation strips

It became pretty well-known at work (where I very seldom happen to be d/t being an at home mom) that I REALLY want more children. And living in a small town, they tend to pay a little closer attention. I’d get frequent “you pregnant yet”, and “are you still trying” and then the really fun “I thought you were pregnant when i saw you last?”. These people had (some unknowingly) seen me through 2 miscarriages and a lot of tying. But one of my coworkers suggested ovulation strips. Are you kidding? those cost a fortune (I’d never be able to stick to the 5 strips it gives you a month). But she found them on eBay for $1 for 30 ovulation strips and 10 pregnancy tests and only $5 shipping. can I express how much I loved this girl at that moment! So I order 2 packs.

And now I’m using them. And as I knew, I didn’t have the patience to wait untill the suggested day to start using them, but who care! they we really cheap. My logic – what if I ovulate early? my Dr once suspected that I  did. So I can indulge my impatience here and just do it. but…nothing yet.

And I must say, it’s kinda awkward doing a pee test with a toddler cheering you on. “yay, mommy, you peed, good job!”
